Biafra was once a sovereign nation located in what is now southeastern Nigeria. Separatist feelings spurred on by the Nigerian Civil War caused Biafra to gain its independence in 1967, becoming an independent nation that lasted just three years before being absorbed back into Nigeria and losing its sovereignty. But in recent years, the Biafran agitation has begun again with renewed fervor and determination to bring about the re-emergence of Biafra as an independent nation.
