When a village controls its light, it controls its future.

The Ubuntu Village Solar Power Initiative brings renewable energy to families in rural Uganda — starting with women-led households, where light after dark changes everything: safety, income, education, and the freedom to imagine more.

Why solar power

Energy is not a luxury. It is the foundation of everything that comes next.

In rural Uganda, kerosene lamps are the default — expensive, toxic, and dim. A single solar panel changes the entire calculus of a household: children study after dark, women-led businesses run into the evening, health risks from kerosene fumes disappear. Solar energy is not charity. It is infrastructure that communities have long deserved and are now claiming.

Renewable energy also means energy sovereignty — power that cannot be price-gouged, cut off, or controlled by external interests. When a family owns its solar panel, it owns its light. That is what Ubuntu Village is investing in.

Project objectives

Four things this initiative makes real.

01

Reliable electricity for 400 families

100 families are ready to be powered. The next phase brings solar electricity to 300 more households — prioritizing women-led homes in the most under-resourced areas.

02

10 community members trained as solar technicians

Local youth are building careers as certified solar technicians — skills that belong to them, creating employment and long-term maintenance capacity within the community itself.

03

Better health through cleaner air

Replacing kerosene lamps eliminates toxic fumes that cause respiratory illness — particularly in children and women who spend the most time indoors. Clean light is a health intervention.

04

Education that continues after dark

When children have reliable light in the evening, school attendance and academic outcomes improve. Light is not just electricity — it is the extension of possibility into the hours that used to go dark.
