Michele Mitchell is the Founder of Ubuntu Village Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization operating at the intersection of ancestral African wisdom and modern sustainable infrastructure. Raised in the Lower East Side and East Harlem by a woman who carried generations of traditional healing knowledge, Michele built Ubuntu Village on the foundational belief that science and spirit are not opposing forces, but complementary ways of knowing.

Since founding the organization in 2015, Michele has led community development initiatives across Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda. Her work bridges the gap between indigenous knowledge systems and modern technology, deploying practical, life-changing resources such as off-grid solar electrification and holistic wellness programs. Operating across five interconnected areas—including Black health equity, food sovereignty, and the convergence of neuroscience and ancestral wisdom—she works to build sustainable ecosystems that foster long-term resilience.
Ubuntu Village operates entirely away from deficit framing and savior narratives. Our initiatives focus on tangible community-led infrastructure designed to restore local autonomy. Our mandate is clear: amplify local leadership, honor cultural context with precision, and dismantle colonial frameworks that reduce communities to passive recipients.
Where Ancestral Wisdom Meets Operational Rigor
Building an international non-profit requires both field-level operational strategy and global digital advocacy. Michele directly oversees cross-border infrastructure projects while simultaneously managing the organization’s website architecture, digital publishing, and technical SEO.
The content and philosophy published daily on Ubuntu Village reflect a core belief: that spiritual traditions, metaphysical wellness, and modern scientific inquiry are complementary forces, never in conflict. By holding space for Afro-diasporic spiritual lineages alongside systemic public health advocacy, the organization maintains a trauma-informed standard that names systems of oppression without apology while consistently moving toward healing.
