Last month we told you about the first group of families to receive solar home systems through our partnership with BrightLife Uganda. We told you that more were coming in July. We meant it.

This month, across Uganda and Kenya, Ubuntu Village showed up. Not with a grand announcement, but with the quiet, consistent work that real change is made of. Solar kits delivered. Food placed in the hands of mothers who needed it. Communities are reminded that they are not forgotten.

We keep our word. That is the work.

Eight Families. Eight Futures Rewritten.

This month’s second group of beneficiaries received their donated solar kits through Ubuntu Village’s ongoing partnership with BrightLife Uganda. Eight families. Eight sets of hands accepting something that many of us take for granted every time we flip a switch.

What does a solar kit mean in practice? It means evenings that used to end when the sun went down can now continue. Children finish their homework. Small businesses stay open a little longer. Caregivers move through the night with something they didn’t have before: the ability to see.

We designed this initiative as a ten-month journey, not a single event. Real change in communities is rarely dramatic. It is cumulative. It is built one family, one month, and one solar kit at a time. By the time this initiative reaches its tenth month, we will have transformed the nights of dozens of families across Uganda.

Food Baskets for Kenyan Mothers

In Kenya this month, Ubuntu Village delivered food baskets directly to mothers in need. Not because they are helpless — they are not. But because food insecurity is a structural problem, not a personal failure. And no mother should have to choose between feeding her children and everything else life demands of her.

The women who received these baskets are the anchors of their households and their communities. When they are supported, everyone around them benefits. That is not sentiment—it is how communities actually work.

This program continues because of donors who understand that nourishment is not a luxury. If you would like to help us reach more families in Kenya, your contribution goes directly to the people who need it most.

Honest Reflection

The Families Still Waiting

We tell you about the sixteen families who now have light. We do not want to tell you only that story. For every household that received a solar kit this month, there are more still on the list—families in the same villages, watching a neighbor’s home brighten while their own stays dark a little longer. This is not a failure of the mission. It is the honest arithmetic of doing this work with integrity: eight months remain in a ten-month commitment, and we will not pretend the job is finished when it is one-fifth done.

The same is true in Kenya. The mothers who received food baskets this month are not the only mothers who need them. Food insecurity does not pause for our distribution schedule, and we know there are households in these same communities still waiting on next month’s basket or the one after. We name this not to diminish the work already done, but because truth-telling is itself a form of care—for the communities who trust us with their stories and for you, the partners who trust us with your support.

Looking Ahead

Solar Continues. Water and Connection Are Next.

Month 3 of the solar initiative begins in August, and BrightLife Uganda is already identifying the next group of families. Fifty-six more homes will receive solar kits this year, keeping us on pace toward our ten-month goal.

Alongside that continuing work, we are beginning to lay the groundwork for two new initiatives: clean water access and smartphone connectivity for the communities we serve in Uganda and Kenya. Water carries its own ancestral memory—it is life, ritual, and survival long before it is infrastructure—and clean access returns hours to caregivers, reduces preventable illness, and restores dignity to something as basic as a drink of water. Smartphones open doors to communication, education, and economic opportunity that have long been out of reach for many of the families walking this journey with us.

Both initiatives are in early planning. We will share real numbers, real timelines, and real family stories as this work takes shape—not before we are ready to keep our word, just as we did with solar.

A Call to Action

Eight Months Still to Go. Will You Walk With Us?

We are two months into a ten-month solar initiative. That means eight months of deliveries still ahead. Eight more groups of families are waiting—we want to partner with more homes. The path is clear. What we need is the community behind us to help us stay on it.

The families receiving these kits are not waiting to be saved. They are waiting for the infrastructure that enables them to thrive. That is what we are building together — not dependency, but possibility.

Month 2 is done. Month 3 is coming. Be part of it.

Every solar kit delivered. Every food basket placed in a mother’s hands. Every month we show up again. These are not isolated acts of generosity—they are expressions of a deeper truth: that we are all bound together, and that when one community rises, something in all of us rises with it.
